countdown: our wedding is in 38 days!

the idea of snorkeling doesn't make me jump up and down w/ joy for so many reasons.

first of all, i don't see how it's anything super special to swim close to the surface and look at fish. isn't that the same thing as swimming underwater w/ my eyes open? second of all, i can imagine that water is almost guaranteed to leak from the top of the breathing tube into my mouth, and i hate the taste of salt water! i can also imagine accidentally going a little bit too deep and suddenly getting a mouthful of water. blagh! and to top it all off, i don't like goggles. i can never get the perfect suction so water inevitably starts to slowly leak in.

but, so many ppl i know, including my brother, have gone and liked it, so i figure there has to be at least one redeeming quality, right? in any case, we got some snorkeling gear today. i was ok w/ it right up until i put the goggles on and tried to breathe... unsuccessfully. all i did was increase the suction the goggles had on my face.

the second i couldn't get air in, i tore them off. they go on over the nose?! that is not good. i like breathing through my nose, even if it's only to exhale. i NEED to use my nose. even when i swim normally -- granted, it's been years since i last went swimming, but i still remember how i breathed -- i exhale through my nose. i think i'm going to look into snorkeling w/ regular swimming goggles so i don't feel ready to suffocate. would that work? i don't see why not.
