countdown: our wedding is in 36 days!

i had my first french manicure today at spa julianna. actually it was my first manicure, period. i looked into both this place and a spa in the mall. this place is quite a bit pricier at $65 including 15% tip. but i had someone recommend this place, so i figured why not. it turns out though, that the manicure comes w/ the paraffin treatment, so after asking around, i've decided it's not that pricey after all. (ok, i know, maybe i'm delusional.)

the reason i got it was b/c i'm planning on getting a french manicure for the wedding, but i wanted to see if i liked it first. i have very oval nail bases, and i've noticed that while most ppl cut their nails more straight across, i prefer mine rounded. i've tried cutting them straighter, but to be honest, they just look retarded that way... rounded at the bases, straight at the end. but i liked the french manicure! the only thing i might do for the wedding is ask for a creamier pink. :)

countdown: our wedding is in 38 days!

the idea of snorkeling doesn't make me jump up and down w/ joy for so many reasons.

first of all, i don't see how it's anything super special to swim close to the surface and look at fish. isn't that the same thing as swimming underwater w/ my eyes open? second of all, i can imagine that water is almost guaranteed to leak from the top of the breathing tube into my mouth, and i hate the taste of salt water! i can also imagine accidentally going a little bit too deep and suddenly getting a mouthful of water. blagh! and to top it all off, i don't like goggles. i can never get the perfect suction so water inevitably starts to slowly leak in.

but, so many ppl i know, including my brother, have gone and liked it, so i figure there has to be at least one redeeming quality, right? in any case, we got some snorkeling gear today. i was ok w/ it right up until i put the goggles on and tried to breathe... unsuccessfully. all i did was increase the suction the goggles had on my face.

the second i couldn't get air in, i tore them off. they go on over the nose?! that is not good. i like breathing through my nose, even if it's only to exhale. i NEED to use my nose. even when i swim normally -- granted, it's been years since i last went swimming, but i still remember how i breathed -- i exhale through my nose. i think i'm going to look into snorkeling w/ regular swimming goggles so i don't feel ready to suffocate. would that work? i don't see why not.

countdown: our wedding is in 41 days!

we're probably going to have 27-28 ppl at our rehearsal dinner. that seems like a lot. in my mind, i'd imagined the rehearsal dinner being just for the bridal party and immediate family, and the officiant of course. obviously, we have other ppl coming to ours.

it's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's going to be one weird rehearsal dinner. there will be 2-4 ppl from taiwan who don't really speak english. there will also be 6 or so ppl from tim's extended family. i don't know them but i believe they all speak english except for his grandmother. (i've met her before though.) basically it's gonna be full of ppl who've never met each other.

not that it really matters, since weddings seem to be full of meeting the family members who've somehow escaped introduction.

countdown: our wedding is in 45 days!

today is the first mail day we didn't get any RSVPs back since the first ones rolled in 2 weeks ago. i knew they'd taper off, but still, it was a little sad to not get any. in fact, we didn't get any mail today. what's up w/ that?!

but on the brighter side of things... HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! we're having a laid back night; we're just going to go to dinner at andiamo's, where i can get my gnocchi. yes, that's right, gnocchi. not every italian restaurant has it, but in my opinion, they all should. i love it! in fact, for the wedding, the only reason i chose our particular chicken dish out of 5-6 different choices is b/c it comes w/ gnocchi. haha! of course, i'm not getting chicken; i'm just getting the gnocchi on the side... b/c i'm the bride. ;p

countdown: our wedding is in 52 days!

we kinda screwed ourselves over by having this nice wedding. i mean, once you decide you want things to be nicer than the norm, everything has to be that way. we have expensive taste! consequently, all of our savings are going bye-bye.

we met w/ our florist yesterday and got an updated cost for everything. the damage almost doubled from our initial estimate done 9 months ago. but then again, that's b/c we upgraded on the tablecloths and also added chair covers w/ sashes. and we also added little arrangements for the cocktail tables... and smthg for the cake stand... and one for the placecard table... whoo.

our grand total was definitely more than i'd hoped. and we didn't even get the silver chiavari chairs i wanted! but then again, the gazillion cala lilies we want probably had smthg to do w/ the higher cost.

i wonder how much other ppl spend on flowers/linens/chairs? i mean, our florist isn't super expensive. he's definitely not the most expensive that we met w/. but if he's costing us this much, you gotta wonder about those who use super extravagant centerpieces.

countdown: our wedding is in 55 days!

it's weird to think that we've been together for 4 years 5 months. in the grand scheme of things, it's not that long, but for a 28-year-old, it seems long. but it's flown by! this is an exchange we had tonight at his brother's house watching the superbowl.

me: y'know what i was just thinking?
tim: what?
me: i was only 24 when we started dating. isn't that young?
tim: no, not really.
me: really? when someone's 24, you don't think he or she is young?
tim: well yeah now... but back then it didn't seem like it.
me: well i was 24 when we met. what do 24-year-olds know?!
tim: what do you mean, what do 24-year-olds know?

that's when i tapped him on the chest and said, "they make bad decisions!" and then we just both started laughing.

i know, we're not always the normal couple about to get married. but we've been together for long enough that we know what we're getting into, and we still want to try this thing that most ppl seemingly fail. after living together for almost a year, i can now say that i'm no longer nervous about getting married.

hey, gimme a break. i'm very much a "what if...?" type of girl. i like annoying the hell out of tim w/ hypothetical situations. and smthg as definite as marriage can be hard for "what if" ppl! and tim... well he denies being really nervous, even before he proposed -- at least, so FAR, muhahaha -- which can be really irritating too. in any case, 55 more days!!!
