countdown: our wedding is in 4 days!

our programs were a major pain in the butt. we WERE going to just print them out on regular paper, but then we ended up getting these program kits from michael's, just b/c we were there and they were right in front of us. but of course that meant we had to figure out how to get our design onto the paper.

we spent 3 hours at kinko's saturday night trying to get them done, since we only have an inkjet printer and thought it'd be easier to photocopy them. the word template we used for the programs sucked, so we couldn't get the margins to work out right. it also turns out that kinko's machines couldn't photocopy onto our inner paper b/c it's smaller than the standard 8.5" x 11" paper! oh, the rollers also kept leaving marks all over the outer paper. we also had to feed the sheets in one by one, b/c trying to do 2 at a time either jammed the machine, or left even worse black streaks!

on top of that, once we finally got them all done and i'd gone through and tied bows on all of them, the basket they were in left brown marks on them! i went through and 'cleaned' each one. boy oh boy, they were such a pain. the DIY stuff is hard work! i can't imagine how i would've managed if we'd DIY'ed our invitations too!

as a side note, when we addressed our invitations, the first silver pen we had smeared. a little alcohol swab took off all the writing perfectly and didn't leave any blemishes. that saved us maybe 20 envelopes that we couldn't afford to lose! we tried that trick w/ the programs when they got dirty from the basket, but it didn't work out quite as well. :(

countdown: our wedding is in 7 days!

i can't believe that in 1 week we will be married. i didn't think i'd be nervous, but i've had this baseline level of anxiety since about wednesday. it was kinda weird actually, b/c i woke up that day feeling as if i had a test to take. it comes and goes, and really doesn't affect me much, other than the fact that i can feel it!

we went and got tim his wedding gift today at darakjian jewelers. i would've bought it without his help, except i would've had no idea which one to buy, and i definitely didn't want to spend that much money on smthg only to have him not like it! it's a nice watch -- i'm a little jealous that it doesn't need a battery and mine does haha. when we left, the owner gave us a $100 gift certificate for bacco (a restaurant we really like!) as a 'wedding gift.' they also gave us mugs and a pen. isn't that nice of them? well, we thought it was.

countdown: our wedding is in 20 days!

our RSVP date was yesterday. this whole process was a pain in the butt, but it's just about done. there were some ppl who didn't send in their responses... and there were some of my parents' friends who cancelled after saying they could come. i think that's even more irritating.

in the end, we sent out 98 invitations, including our families. the count right now is 156 or 157 ppl. (seriously, i can't keep track anymore b/c of all the changes.) we're still missing one of tim's friends who didn't send in the RSVP and also hasn't responded to tim's attempt to reach him. i'm marking him as a no.

now it's time to finish those place cards. i'm handwriting them, and it's not like we have an unlimited supply of them, so that's another reason it pisses me off when ppl cancel... i have to redo their card! grrr. i can't wait for this wedding planning stuff to be over and i can return to my normal life.

countdown: our wedding is in 26 days!

all along i'd thought that the little green and white paper i had in my drawer was my birth certificate, b/c that's what my parents had always believed it was. but no. turns out it was my birth registration.

that sucked, b/c we needed our birth certificates to apply for our marriage license, at least in wayne county. until last week both our drivers licenses had oakland county addresses, and in oakland county you can apply for a marriage license using a passport. we just had to change our addresses after almost a year, huh. plus, since i was born in detroit my birth certificate is at the detroit department of health, not the wayne county clerk's office (where we apply for the marriage license).

getting my birth certificate by mail would take 3-4 weeks; clearly, that wasn't an option. luckily i got out of work at 1:30 today and drove to detroit to get it. the place was packed! i had trouble finding a parking spot, and then once i got inside the room was filled. i can't believe that many ppl were there. i know what *i* needed my birth certificate for... but i stood there for an hour looking around in boredom, wondering why everyone else was there. it sucked.

but now i have an official sealed copy of my birth certificate, and we can go ahead and apply for the marriage license. isn't it funny... you want to get married and say your vows in front of friends and family... and there are all these legal hoops you have to go through? but at least now i finally know what my real birth certificate looks like.

countdown: our wedding is in 30 days!

whenever ppl ask where we're going on our honeymoon and i say curaçao, in response i inevitably get a blank or surprised look. i know, it's kinda one of those rarely known places. when i explain that it's one of the netherland antilles islands, northeast of venezuela, a lot of ppl ask how we decided on it.

well, back in college i used to really like this drink lusty lizzard at the now defunct good time charley's. the alcohol in it was blue curacao. from then on, i've always been drawn to drinks w/ blue curacao in them. when tim and i started dating he told me that curaçao was actually an island... and that's how we came to be familiar w/ it.

when it came time to deciding on a honeymoon locale, we wanted to go someplace neither of us had been. that was actually kinda difficult. in the end it came down to aruba and curaçao, and then based on many many reviews online, we decided on curaçao. see? it's not a weird decision, is it? ;)
